I had the pleasure of attending the Saturday performance of Stoyan Yankoulov and brothers Vladigerov on the stage of the Bulgarian Arts Festival in Toronto. This flawlessly organized magical night far exceeded my expectations as a viewer. I was delighted to learn about Stunji and brothers Vladigerov, to hear the moving tunes of the flugehorn, trumpet and piano and observe and witness Stundji’s mastery of the tupan and drums. The concert featured the phenomenal jazz compositions of the brothers Vladigerov accompanied by the immaculate drumming of Stoyan Yankoulov. Encore! Encore! For the first time at a cultural event organized by the Bulgarians in Toronto and under the wonderful coordination of Eliza and Todor Yordanov, I felt that this is worthy of world audience, that we Bulgarians should be blessed and proud to have such talented performers come entertain and enrich us all the way from Europe. This entertaining and expressive “variete-style” folk jazz performance moved me and the entire audience deeply and profoundly and I am looking forward to the next wonderful showcase of such exceptional Bulgarian talent on Canadian soil. Thank you Stundji and brothers Vladigerov and thumbs up to an impeccably organized night by the Bulgarian Arts Festival coordinators.
